For those of you who are dog owners, how often do you bathe them? I try to give Sasha a bath once every 7-10 days. Until recently it’s been impossible to do it any more often because it’s been raining constantly and she would just go outside and immediately get muddy and messy. I’ve just been noticing lately that whenever she comes in the house from being outside she smells super funky. She’s pretty much lost that sweet puppy smell, and now it’s just stank dog scent. In fact, I think sometimes that I can see gyrating dirt lines all around her like on Pigpen.
I just need to find some good quality shampoo for her, because I don’t want to dry out her skin or anything.

You’re not suppose to wash dogs that often. In fact, it’s not good for them at all. You are washing away the natural oils on her coat & skin. That will only lead to problems afterwards with hair loss, rashes, and others.
You should wash your dog every month or so unless she’s dirty. Other than that don’t bother. If she smells, you can get those dog fur sprays (aka dog cologne) from the store. Just spray that on her coat every few days and you won’t have a smelly problem.

I get HyLyt Shampoo from the vet. I’ve been using it for years and it’s a great product. Don’t ever buy dog products with the label Sargent’s or Hartz. They are not good for the dog’s skin.
I wash Maya every other month or so unless she gets really stinky from playing outside. But I actually don’t really mind her smell no matter how dirty she is. Hah! She still smells like my baby dog to me!

Wow, my dogs get baths about twice a year! But they do play in lots of water areas so that cleans em off every few weeks.

You’ll get used to the smell, and not bathing them once every week. Mine are lucky to get them once every 2 months. And in my situation, the second they are bathed, they bolt right back into the yard and start grinding themselves into the dirt. Its both funny and frustrating to watch.
